What To Do When You First Get to Hollywood?

It is important to be set up in your area and have a plan for which department you want to learn first. Even if you want to be an actor, exploring work on film sets in different departments will give you a tremendous amount of perspective on your work.

So first, make sure you have a reliable car.

Then, a great place to stay that is affordable.

Start to network the way I say in my course.

And take a writing class. More on this later.

Take a course on photography.

One of the basics my mentor Jim Kelly Durgin taught me, and I have taught all my students is that photography is the basics of filmmaking, and every person who works in film, every person, should know a basic of photography.

This is the course I recommend for a complete understanding of photography.

This is something you can even work on before you get out to Hollywood so you are prepared.

Believe me, it feels good to be on set knowing what is happening.

Writing is a great way to learn how to create films.

All of the filmmaking is storytelling. Each department you do is about storytelling, so learning to write can really help you in many departments as well as keep you creative while you are still looking for work.

Hey, and it might turn out to be a great way to make money on the side while you are building up your career in film.
