Planning as a Producer

I have plans to do much more thanjust script supervising,I also want to produce.I’m going to breakthis down the same way I did when I directed plays. I directed about seven mostly classical playsafter college, so I have an idea of how to do plays. This is actually a movie I am attempting toproduceandI’ll tell you more about it a little later, but it’s definitely taken from a play.

So we’re going to break it down the same way when we do the scheduling and everything.I like touse3x5cardsanda whole collection ofhighlighters.Basically what I will do is take each scene andputiton a three by five card, and then I will put all the actors on there. This is something I got fromscript supervising actually, Itake the page count for each scene and write them on there and thenthe location. However, because this based on a play, I can actually change the locations.SoI amgoing to write them down on these3x5cards along with each actor in the sceneandthen I’m goingto highlight each actor with a different color highlighter.

So to repeat, the best way for me to lay everything out and keep track is by using 3×5. I’m going totake each character for each scene. I’m going to write the scene number on the top ofthe card, thepage count, which I got from script supervising. Then I’m going to also write each character downand highlight each character with a different color. This way I can break it down and I can do anactual schedule forthe whole piece. It makesit much easier for me to plan and have an overview.Ihope that this helps.
